North Wales Masterclass - Return Visit

Hi Everyone,

Following the success of the Bala Masterclass a few weeks back, I decided to pay a return visit to the Tanygisiau Slate Mines last Sunday (21 Sept). I managed to spend a good 6 hours there and the weather was beautyful (resulting in boring skys!). Anyway, I did manage to get a few shots that I'm happy with, which are below.

During the masterclass visit to this location, we were limited by time and tended to stick close to the area near the begining of the lake. As I had more time, I walked along the lake, finding a run down chapel along the way.

There was also an old work house at the far end of the valley. There were the remains of anold aquaduct (in the backgroud) and waterwheel pit!

There's also lots of slate (obvioulsy...)

All the photos were taken with my EOS 40D and imported into Photoshop Lightroom, where they were cropped (if needed) and tweaked.

There are more photo's from here and the actual masterclass course on my own web site, www.keithdw.co.uk, just follow the links to UK and then Tanygrisiau Slate Mines.

Big Cat Safari

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to agree with Brian and say just what a marvellous day I had on Saturday - it was incredible to get that close to such magnificent creatures. Many many thanks to Brian and Paul for arranging it all.

I'm posting some of my efforts from the day. They're all unmodified apart from a minor cropping here and there. I usually find it difficult to know what manipulation might look 'better'... Should I convert to black+white? What needs fixing, etc? Then once I start fiddling around I sometimes don't know when to stop...!

All comments on these pictures welcome...

This is a republication of my previous post (somehow a couple of images diappeared?)

Big Cat Safari

Hi All

Just recuperating after a long day yesterday with the Big Cats. The weather was good and we all had a great day. It is amazing how big the cats actually are when you are right up close to them. The health and safety talk certainly brought home to me that these are very powerful animals. The snow leopards looked so soft, I wanted to take one home with me. Our game keeper was great too, he was so knowledgeable about the cats and their plight in the wild. I think we will agree that the centre does some great conservation work.

Hi all,

Sorry its taken me so long to post, but the more mundane things in life have taken precedence for a while. I really enjoyed the experience of working with you all and will definately do it again.

I have uploaded some of the images I took from Bala and look forward to comments.

Kearsney Abbey Masterclass September 13th

Hi All

Paul and I had a great time this weekend, good weather, good light and great photography. We both feel you all made great progress and captured some good images. As I said during the critique you captured images that would not look out of place in a magazine. I would encourage you to send images into photography magazines; you could get them published. Past students have had images published, and one student even had a double page spread on his work. Not me I hear you saying, but why not. Give it a try, you never know.

All working hard. Keep up the good work.

Big Cat Photographic Safari Day

With our Big Cat Photographic Safari Day fast approaching (20th September) I have been working on some images taken a few months ago at the Centre. This portrait of a Cheetah contains over 10 separate Photoshop adjustment layers and more than a few minutes work.

With a few days to take stock of our most recent 4 day Masterclass in Wales, I have got around to producing a panoramic image taken with my Canon G9 at Cwmorthin. The dull overcast conditions did not stop us all enjoying the experience, and Brian and myself would like to thank everyone for making it a very successful Masterclass; great company and some fine images!
